In Fall 2014, the W3C ORTC CG completed the first API draft and called for real-world implementations of the ORTC API.

Microsoft responded by adding the ORTC API to the Edge browser and the ORTC Lib open source project was created to allow mobile developers to take advantage of the ORTC API within mobile applications.

WebRTC 1.0 has been gradually adding the ORTC objects to its 1.0 API, although with a more restricted set of properties.
